What models and trims are available?
In typical Audi fashion, there are plenty of models to choose from. The RS4 Avant is available in standard, Carbon Black and Vorsprung trims, with even the ‘entry-level’ model featuring 19-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, and special exhaust system and sports suspension.
Go to the top Vorsprung edition, and it’s packed with kit. A panoramic sunroof is worthwhile to brighten up the interior, while the Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system will make longer journeys more bearable.
Options come in the form of driver assistance packs, where you’ll get adaptive cruise controls and 360-degree parking cameras, for instance. It’s here that the cost will ramp up rapidly from what looks like an appealing initial price.
What’s it like to drive?
Nestled behind the mesh-filled grille is a 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine shared with the closely related RS 5 models. If you’re concerned that the previous-generation RS 4 packed a V8 engine, then let us allay your concerns: this is an exceedingly rapid car.
Twin turbos ensure there’s 450hp on offer, while 600Nm of torque is available from 1,900rpm to 5,000rpm. That broad range of peak pulling power means that at virtually any speed the RS 4 responds with an immediate burst of acceleration whenever you prod the accelerator pedal.
It also means that it posts a 0-62mph acceleration time of 4.1 seconds, before reaching an electronically governed top speed of 155mph. However, opt for the RS 4 Vorsprung and that leaps to 174mph.
Rather than the seven-speed twin-clutch S Tronic gearbox found in more every day models, the RS 4 has an eight-speed Tiptronic conventional automatic, which is better able to cope with the huge performance demands. It performs smoothly, but can be hesitant with changing down a gear.

There’s no denying that the RS 4 is a supremely effective way to cover a significant amount of ground very quickly – and comfortably – when you pay extra for the adaptive suspension.
If you’re plumping for an RS 4 Avant, then the adaptive suspension option is an absolute must. In Dynamic mode it remains very firm – too much so on surfaces rougher than a ten-pin bowling alley – but in Comfort it’s truly transformed, soaking-up incredibly shabby surfaces without transmitting that much in the way of discomfort to the interior.
It feels very secure at high speed, in large part thanks to its standard Quattro four-wheel drive. Under ordinary driving it meters-out 60% of the engine’s power and torque to the rear wheels, 40% to the front, with the aim of making it feel a little more lively to drive than a conventional four-wheel drive car. However, the power split can vary depending upon traction, sending up to 70% power to the front wheels and 85% to the back.
Additionally, it’s also fitted with a mechanical device Audi calls a Sport differential, with various electronic changes the driver can make to adjust how much power is sent to the back wheels. In basic terms this means that you can get the rear tyres squealing as you powerslide out of bends.
Ultimately the M3 Touring is a sharper drive. The Bavarian car feels that bit more rear biassed and a touch more balanced because of it, whereas the RS 4 feels heavier and less pointy. The BMW also boasts 60hp more from its 3.0-litre twin turbo engine.

Многим автолюбителя было очень жаль, что в данном автомобиле больше практически невозможно услышать дорогих, а также вполне эстетичных щелчков его классического контроллера MMI. Создатели автомобиля решили распрощаться с ними практически навсегда. Но, в качестве необходимой компенсации увеличивается, его центральный экран, который изменился, в сторону увеличения практически на пару дюймов.
Но вот в RS 4 все-таки еще вполне возможно покрутить несколько рифленых барабанчиков, с помощью которых устанавливается полноценный климат-контроль, возможно также и без дополнительных проблем осуществить нажатия на физические клавиши, которые находятся, непосредственно на его центральной консоли.
Можно отметить, что включение фар возможно осуществить практически наощупь, но при этом нет необходимости метко целиться в его «лысую» сенсорную панель. Это даёт возможность без проблем осуществлять переключение в режим «драйв» большим и довольно выдающимся селектором трансмиссии.
Информационно-развлекательная система и связь
10.1-дюймовый сенсорный экран управляет информационно-развлекательной системой. The vehicle still has a generous 17.4 cubic feet of trunk space and can accommodate four adults in the utmost comfort. The sports seats are finished in Napa leather and provides excellent comfort levels. Apart from this, the cabin is equipped with a 10.1-inch touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and other useful bits like dual-zone climate control but misses out on a panoramic sunroof. It also comes with connected car tech that allows the user certain control of the cars using a smartphone application.
Overall the 2023 Audi RS4 Avant Competition Plus is a fantastic wagon that provides sporty performance and everyday practicality. The inclusion of the Competition Plus pack has made things even better for the vehicle, as it is now one of the fastest wagons cars in the its segment.

The 2023 Audi RS4 Avant Competition Plus uses the same engine that was previously found on the vehicle, which is a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. The motor has a power output of 450 HP and 442 lb-ft of torque. The gearbox is almost similar to what was found on the previous version, the 8-speed automatic unit, but that system is slightly tweaked with software updates allowing the Competition Plus to shift gears even faster. Power is sent to all four wheels as it uses Audi’s legendary quattro all-wheel-drive system that delivers optimum traction in any driving situation. Since the Avant comes with the Competition Plus pack, it sounds much different than the standard car. It packs some exciting stuff like a custom sports exhaust with matte black exhaust tips. Audi has also removed nearly 16 pounds of noise-insulating material so that drivers can feel and hear the V6 Symphony a lot clearer.
Further in the Competition Plus Pack’s list happens to be a recalibrated steering wheel and ABS unit to aid performance and deliver a much better feel through the corners. The traditional quattro all-wheel-drive system is also returned. The differential places more emphasis on the rear wheels, essentially making it a rear-wheel-drive biased and sending power to the front wheels only when needed. All these minor changes have resulted in a small performance advantage for the RS4 Avant competition, plus it now does the 0 to 60 mph print in just 3.9 seconds which happens to be a 0.2-second improvement over the standard car. The top speed on all Competition plus models has also been increased to 180 mph. To get the vehicle to a complete halt from extreme speeds, that carmaker added carbon-ceramic brakes.

Но самым важным достоинством автомобиля можно назвать включение спортивного режима.
Все агрегаты автомобиля великолепны настроены на комфортное понижение передач. Благодаря использованию полного привода, quattro организовывается посредством использования дифференциала. Одной из ключевых опций пакета RS-dynamic можно назвать великолепный спортивный дифференциал, который равномерным образом способен отдавать постоянный крутящий момент на все колеса. What’s it like inside?
If you’re familiar with the Audi A4 Avant, the interior experience you get from the RS 4 is going to offer up no surprises. That’s not to say that it’s not a special place to sit in – the material quality is every bit as high as you’d expect at this price level – while the tech on offer is easy to use and classy to look at.
It’s been around in facelifted form since 2019, meaning the infotainment and tech look a bit old school compared with its BMW and Mercedes rivals. But it is at least simple to use and performs well. The excellent Virtual Cockpit set-up for the car’s instrumentation can show navigation or map info or a trip computer with more detailed journey data.
The interior is as roomy as any other A4 Avant, although the high-backed front seats can make things a little claustrophobic for those in the rear. Luggage space is competitive with the Mercedes-AMG and BMW, with a capacity of 495 litres with the rear seats in place, and 1,500 with them folded.

Ownership costs and maintenance
It has 450hp and oodles of performance, so it’s not unreasonable to expect running costs to be on the high side. The official claimed fuel economy actually beats 30mpg, but in testing we struggled to do much more than 22mpg, with 25+ being possible if you’re gentle, or stuck in slow-moving traffic.

The Audi RS4 Avant is available in standard, Carbon Black and Vorsprung trims. Whichever you choose, make sure it has adaptive suspension.
Also, consumables – tyres and brakes – are going to cost you dearly because there’s no escaping physics, and this is a quick and heavy car. The RS4 Avant comes with Audi’s standard three-year warranty with breakdown cover. Reassuring, but hardly generous.
Safety
As you’d expect, the RS4 Avant features the latest driver-assistance technology, intended to help the driver get out of trouble if they get things wrong. Audi’s iteration of these systems is very good indeed, with few of the annoyances that afflict some rivals.
The adaptive cruise control works well, for instance. Once activated, it keeps you in the centre of the lane, while intelligently keeping you at a user-defined distance behind the car ahead. This is standard fare, but it does an excellent job doing so without jerkiness or random movements. But it is a little stingy that only top spec models receive it as standard.
Overview
Most members of the general public might still associate estates with the Austins and Volvos their grandparents once drove. Estate cars can be seen as a bit old hat, with many Brits now favouring fashionable SUVs.
The Audi RS 4 Avant, however, cannot be tarred with the same brush. It’s aimed squarely at performance enthusiasts who want to combine a ridiculously quick car capable of carrying everything a family could need with one that isn’t as heavy or as gauche as an SUV.
Put simply, the RS 4 Avant is one of the subtlest ways of getting a four-wheel drive 450hp performance car on your drive. To the layman it looks much like a regular Audi A4 Avant, but the dyed in the wool gearheads will spot the larger wheels and extended wheelarches.
It’s main rivals are the BMW M3 Touring and estate version of the Mercedes-AMG C-Class. New scorchingly hot estate cars are few and far between, which means potential buyers will also have SUV-shaped cars, such as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio and Jaguar F-Pace SVR on their shopping list.

The RS4 Avant is an object lesson in quality and good design, although the sports seats are rather firm.
