2024 lexus tx

The interior of the 2024 Lexus TX

The TX’s raison d’être becomes apparent in the interior, which like the Grand Highlander is very spacious. The figures for cargo volume behind each row speak volumes. Even with all seats in place, capacity is 569 litres, which is more than the average car trunk. Lowering the third bench seat increases volume to 1,625 litres, which is practically what a compact SUV offers. With the last two rows folded down, total space reaches 2747 litres.

Note that in the second row, you have two options: captain’s-style seats or a full bench that folds in a 60-40 ratio. Oddly, Lexus makes no mention of the precise number of seats, but we can guess that it’s the same formula as with the Grand Highlander: eight with the second-row bench seat, seven with captain’s chairs.

A wealth of equipment
Unsurprisingly, we learn that the Lexus TX will be rather richly equipped, even if the full specifications are not yet known. Items such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic roof, 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system and head-up display will be available.

The LSS 3.0 safety suite comes as standard. It includes items such as (add).

The final word
We’ll have more to say about the 2024 Lexus TX when we see it in person, and especially once we have the opportunity to drive it.

The TX, designed for the North American market, will be assembled at the Group’s Indiana plant. The 350 and 500 versions go on sale this autumn, while the plug-in hybrid version will have to wait a little longer.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Depending on the interior layout you choose, the TX can seat up to seven across its three rows. An optional set of second-row captain’s chairs lower the total capacity to six, but buyers intending to use the TX as a family SUV may find that tradeoff worth it to provide sibling separation. Storage bins are plentiful, and Lexus has integrated plenty of charging ports inside the TX’s cabin too. We don’t have a full list of the TX’s standard and optional features yet, but we expect to see plenty of convenience and luxury items on the list, including a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated-and-cooled seats, and perhaps even massage for those in the front. When we find out more, we’ll update this story with details.

Engines of the 2024 Lexus TX

Like its Toyota cousin, the TX offers three powertrains. Two of these can be found with the Grand Highlander: a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder (275 hp and 312 lb-ft of torque) and a hybrid version using the same powertrain, this time to deliver 366 hp and 409 lb-ft of torque. With the Grand Highlander, these mills serve respectively as the base and richest version of the range.

With the TX, the non-electrified engine serves the TX 350 AWD variant, while the TX 500h benefits from electric power.

At the top of the hierarchy is the TX 550h+. It features its own exclusive engine, a 3.5L V6 married to electric motors to deliver an electric range of 53 km. Power is rated at 406 hp.

Also, as with the Grand Highlander, each engine is associated with a different transmission. With the 2.4L, there are 8-speed and 6-speed automatic transmissions for the gasoline and hybrid versions respectively. The plug-in hybrid model features a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Note that the electrified version of the 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is only available with the F-Sport trim level. And speaking of trim levels, the TX range features five: Premium, Ultra Luxury, Executive, F-Sport 2 and F-Sport 3. The Premium model gets 20-inch wheels, although 22-inch rims will be available as an option. All other models feature 22-inch wheels.

Design

The Lexus TX looks more mature and upscale than the LX. Image Source: Lexus

The Lexus TX has a less jagged styling than the Lexus RX L. Focusing on space and practicality, it has a rather boxy exterior. While the RX L was an extension of the (third-gen) RX, the TX has got nothing to do with the (fourth-gen) RX. It is, however, a mechanical cousin of the Toyota Grand Highlander, and that relationship is evident in its shape. Minimal sheet metal changes help companies keep production costs low and prices competitive.

At the front, the Lexus TX features a clean look, mainly because of a ‘Unified Spindle’ grille that only has narrow horizontal openings. Lexus says this grille prioritizes aerodynamic handling and vehicle stability, which is why the openings aren’t unnecessarily big. The Lexus logo is positioned in front of the hood shut line instead of on the grille, adding to the understated appearance. The headlights are compact horizontal units and feature an L-shaped slim DRL that runs beneath the lead edge of the hood.

As evident in its large, squarish rear quarter glass panels, the 2024 Lexus TX doesn’t seem like an afterthought and is a proper three-row model. Image Source: Lexus

Fog lamps are going out of fashion at some luxury automakers, but not Lexus. The TX does have fog lamps, on the lower side areas of the front bumper. The hood has a muscular bulge and slopes down gracefully.

The side profile is nearly identical to the Toyota Grand Highlander. The luxury model has unique wheels, body-colored wheel arch moldings, and a wider, black D-pillar. The rear-end is tall and upright, much like that of the LX. A slim, end-to-end tail light with L-shape outer ends emphasizes the width of the SUV.

Release Date

The 2024 Lexus TX will go on sale in Fall 2023, but it won’t be available in the TX 550h+ variant at launch. The plug-in hybrid variant will go on sale at a later date, but as part of the 2024 model.

Dealers are excited about the launch of the proper seven-seater SUV designed and developed mainly for American customers. The TX is a model “that is going to give the ride that that segment is looking for,” John Iacono, Chairman, Lexus National Dealer Advisory Council, said.

In anticipation of Lexus launching the TX in the U.S. in the coming months, a few Lexus dealers have begun posting the details of the SUV obtained from media reports on their websites, keeping eager customers informed on the latest updates.

With the launch of the Lexus TX, the brand would strengthen its presence in North America. This model would be a testament to Lexus’ continued efforts to offer tailor-made regional solutions. The TX should contain better margins than the RX L, which, along with greater demand, could make it a favorite with dealers.

Lexus TX vs. Lexus LX

There should be no dilemma when choosing between the Lexus TX and LX. Both have plenty of differentiation in every aspect.

Customers have been asking for a full-size Lexus SUV that’s plusher than the LX and with car-like manners for years now. The body-on-frame LX is not the ideal choice for people who want a vehicle to move their children around town or a status symbol for the elites being driven mainly downtown or to other urban areas with well-paved roads.

The TX is a more spacious and comfortable people-mover than the LX. With improved handling and easier maneuvering, thanks to its monocoque chassis, it will provide a more relaxing ride overall. Thanks to its local production and lack of top-flight off-roading hardware, the TX should be a more affordable option too. And by far the biggest advantage over the LX would be the higher gas mileage and quietness of the hybrid/plug-in hybrid system.

Local production would make the TX quicker to ship to U.S. dealers and give it greater supply stability compared to the LX. Soon after the launch, Lexus had stopped taking orders for the new LX in Japan due to overwhelming demand, and unprecedented supply chain issues. Such instances are less likely for the TX, as the U.S. market supply would be prioritized by the Indiana plant. What this means for customers is that the TX might would not be as prone to shortages and dealer markups.

A Powertrain for Everyone

The all-new vehicle will be offered in three powertrain options to help meet the diverse needs and lifestyles of guests. These include two electrified units, a Lexus-first 3.5L V6 plug-in hybrid and a high-performance 2.4L turbocharged hybrid powertrain that reduce carbon emissions and help the brand’s progress toward its vision of a carbon-neutral society.

The TX 350 (FWD/AWD) offers a responsive 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 engine for an elegant and refined driving performance, as seen on the RX and NX.

The TX 500h (DIRECT4 AWD only) offers a 2.4L turbocharged Parallel Hybrid system and is available exclusively as F SPORT Performance. This system, first introduced on the 2023 RX, is combined with DIRECT4 and Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), which offers responsive maneuverability and enhanced vehicle stability. Previously seen on the 2023 RX and 2023 RZ, DIRECT4 is Lexus’ exclusive all-wheel drive technology that provides instant electric control to all four wheels to transform dynamic performance, working instantaneously according to driving conditions and driver intentions. During higher speed maneuvers, DRS enables the rear wheels to turn in the same direction as the front wheels to give clear, stable turning response. At slower speed, the rear wheels can seamlessly turn in the opposite direction as the front wheels for low-speed maneuverability.

The TX 550h+ (DIRECT4 AWD only) plug-in hybrid vehicle offers a Lexus-first, combining a powerful 3.5L V6 engine with DIRECT4. Guests will experience a distinctive driving experience with serene quietness, smooth acceleration, and a manufacturer projected estimated EV range rating of 33 miles. This is the first Lexus PHEV assembled in North America and this powertrain will be available at a later date.

TX Interior

2024 Lexus TX Premium interior front cabin with 14-inch touchscreen

The big problem with mid-size SUVs is the subpar 3rd-row offering; it’s almost like an afterthought. While it’s convenient when you’ve got 7 passengers, that last row almost always lacks any real legroom, headroom, and other features. Plus, where to you put the extra luggage?

Lexus solves this with the TX’s adult-sized 3rd-row offering ample legroom and decent cargo space of 20.1 cubic-feet behind the third row. As with cousin Grand Highlander’s interior, that’s good for up to 7 carry-on suitcases.

Remember the Lexus RX L? If not, we forgive you. This was the smaller Lexus RX sporting a 3rd-row, first revealed for 2017. Well, the RX L was discontinued for 2023, and now we know why.

2024 Lexus TX Interior Cargo Specs:

2024 Lexus TX Premium with 7 carry-on suitcases behind the 3rd row

 TX 350, TX 500h, TX 550h+
Cargo space behind third row 20.1 cubic feet (569 L)
Cargo space with third row folded flat 57.4 cubic feet (1,625 L)
Cargo space with second row folded flat 97 cubic feet (2,747 L)

The GA-K Platform

The TX is the latest Lexus SUV to adopt the GA-K platform, which offers a low center of gravity and optimal weight distribution. To improve performance and comfort for a three-row SUV, enhancements were made to strengthen the TX’s body rigidity and minimize noise, vibration, and harshness. TX also inherits the Lexus Driving Signature fundamentals and elevates them to the next level.

For TX, welds and adhesives are included to increase the vehicle’s joint strength and rigidity through the main framework components of the chassis. In addition, the steering system and rear section were also strengthened. Along with the introduction of the rear multi-link suspension design and widened front and rear tracks, these enhancements enable the vehicle to provide the driver with an engaging experience through a direct connection to the road through the tires, precise steering and a confident brake feel.

Technology and Convenience Features with All Passengers in Mind

With Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 standard on 2024 TX models, drivers and passengers will enjoy added peace of mind.

The comprehensive suite of active safety equipment provides the brand’s highest level of driver support with features such as Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Road Sign Assist (RSA) and Proactive Driving Assist (PDA). These technologies are designed to help, for example, alert the driver of a pedestrian or vehicle in front of the vehicle or maintain a preset speed or following distance from a vehicle ahead.

Available Advanced Park aids in supporting safe and secure perpendicular parking/exiting and parallel parking/exiting. In addition, with an active Drive Connect trial or subscription, available Traffic Jam Assist is designed to monitor surrounding traffic in condensed, low-speed driving situations on limited access roadways and automatically move forward and brake as needed to keep a set following distance behind the preceding vehicle.

Practical Elegance and Design

While pursuing a unique three-row SUV silhouette, TX adopts Lexus’ current design language and adds eye-catching and unique design elements.

For the TX, Lexus Design set out to prioritize aerodynamic performance. The result not only enhanced efficiency and handling stability, but also led to the creation of the new Lexus “Unified Spindle,” which incorporates Lexus early design language. The headlights are linked by a narrow aperture that runs beneath the leading edge of the hood, under which a low-set grille forms a seamless spindle shape. This sleek front-end was designed to enhance aerodynamic handling and provides both a sense of mass and cooling performance.

The 2024 TX will be offered in four grades: Standard, Premium, Luxury and F SPORT Performance.

The vehicle’s driving performance is realized through a wide, grounded stance accented by 20-inch wheels for standard, Premium and Luxury grades. For those who want a more powerful look, 22-inch wheels are available for the TX 350 Luxury grade and come standard on the 550h+. The 500h F SPORT Performance also rides on standard 22-inch wheels that sport an exclusive design.

From the back, the TX includes a slim signature L-shaped light bar lamp that mirrors the modern and resolute impression in the front to create a powerful silhouette. The cabin silhouette with its blacked out rear pillar and arrow-shaped ornamentation provides a sleek and refined design.

The 2024 TX will be offered in seven exterior color options depending on grade: Cloudburst Gray, Wind Chill Pearl, Caviar, Matador Red Mica, Nightfall Mica, Incognito and Celestial Silver Metallic.

Inside, the TX’s driver-focused cockpit design and available 12.3 multi-information display enable a deeper connection to instill confidence and control in the driver. Opening the door with just a touch of the Digital Latch, TX welcomes passengers with available multi-colored illumination accents and door trim options. Driver controls like the available head-up display (HUD) enables smooth line of sight to minimize driver distraction. Lexus Interface comes standard on the TX with a 14-inch Multimedia Touchscreen Display, which provides easy-to-use controls and clear information to the driver and front-seat passengers. The 2024 TX also comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay Integration and Android Auto compatibility. Available with all powertrains, the 21-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound System is tuned for the TX cabin to deliver high-quality sound.

Comprehensive utility and usability are provided in every row to ensure all guests travel with comfort and convenience. All rows have accessible storage. Throughout the vehicle, seven charging/communication ports and three power outlets enable passengers to use their smartphone or tablet at any point during their journey. The cupholders, which can hold various sizes of cups and bottles, are removable to accommodate diverse usage styles.

In the front seats, a dual-opening console lid provides the driver and front-seat passenger with the ability to open the left and right sides independently. The second row, depending on grade, is available in two configurations: captain’s chairs or a 60:40 split-folding bench. Access to the third row is made easier with a slide assist walk-in mechanism. With a press of the switch on the seat shoulder, the seat tilts forward and the slide assist spring slides and folds the second-row seats.

In addition, TX offers storage areas throughout the cabin, including an available center console for the second row when equipped with captain chairs. This removable semi-console box can be used to store small items or a digital device such as a tablet. It can also accommodate cups or bottles by installing the removable cupholders. For passengers with an active, on-the-go lifestyle, TX has ample cargo capacity with room for seven carryon suitcases in the rear of the vehicle. When the third-row seats are folded down, cargo capacity increases to 57.4 cubic feet. When both the second and third row are folded down, cargo capacity increases to 97 cubic feet.

The TX does more than provide a way of traveling to a destination. It ensures the journey itself is enjoyable through serene cabin quietness. TX employs high-damping door and roof mastic seals and an increased silencer material under the rear cargo and floor area to help soften rear seat noise vibration.

The 2024 TX will be offered in three interior color options depending on grade: Peppercorn, Birch and Black.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A big 14.0-inch infotainment display is standard on the TX and it runs Lexus’s latest infotainment interface, which we’ve found is responsive and intuitive to use. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are likely to be standard, as are an in-dash navigation system and a wireless smartphone charging pad. A 12.3-inch digital gauge display can be reconfigured to show a variety of information to the driver and an optional head-up display provides yet another digital readout for the driver. Lexus hasn’t said what the standard stereo will be in the TX yet—we suspect a 10-speaker arrangement like the one found in the 2024 GX SUV—but it has said a 21-inch Mark Levinson premium stereo option will be available.

Specifications

The 2024 Lexus TX sits on the TNGA-K platform or simply ‘GA-K’ at Lexus, leading to a stiffer unibody structure, smoother and quieter ride, lower center of gravity, and many other improvements over the RX L. The monocoque full-size SUV is up to 203.5 in. long, 78.3 in. wide, and 70.1 in. tall and has a 116.1-inch wheelbase. It’s up to 3.0 in. longer but up to 4.5 in. lower than the body-on-frame LX. More importantly, it has a 4.0 in. longer wheelbase, which is why it is much more spacious.

Lexus has announced the 2024 TX in three variants: TX 350, TX 500h, and TX 550h+. The TX 350 is the base variant that employs a conventional gasoline engine with zero electrification. The TX500h is the hybrid variant slotted above it, and the TX550h+ is the range-topping plug-in hybrid that should offer a sufficient pure-electric driving range to cover daily commutes. Both the electrified variants feature DIRECT4 AWD.

TX Hybrid

The 2024 Lexus TX 500h should deliver a fuel economy of 24 MPG. Image Source: Lexus

The Lexus TX 500h employs the T24A-FTS 2.4-liter turbocharged gas engine and two motors, one assisting the engine at the same axle and one enabling all-wheel drive by powering the rear wheels. The parallel hybrid system has been paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It produces 366 hp and 409 lb.-ft. of torque and is targeted to deliver a fuel economy of 24 MPG.

TX Plug-in Hybrid

As for the TX 550h+, Lexus says it uses the 2GR-FXS 3.5-liter V6 gas engine and a CVT. Reports say it has three electric motors, and while it’s logical to assume two of them are on each axle, there’s no word on which wheels the third motor is powering, the front ones or the rear. Lexus has confirmed that the plug-in hybrid system develops a total power of 406 hp.

Lexus estimates the TX 550h+ will be able to travel 33 miles in EV mode on a full charge and return a fuel economy of 30 MPG.

Benefits of electrification in the Lexus TX

Electrification should add refinement and efficiency while meeting the performance expectations of buyers in the market for a three-row luxury SUV. With assistance from the electric motor, 0-60, overtaking, and tackling inclines would not be an issue even with a full load of occupants. For the TX 550h+ specifically, Lexus says customers will experience smooth acceleration and serene quietness.

2024 Lexus TX: When and How Much?

Lexus hasn’t yet revealed the TX’s exact pricing, but we suspect that it’ll start in the mid-$50,000 range, somewhere higher than the MDX and QX60 but not in the realm of big-buck three-rows like the LX or the BMW X7. The TX 500h is likely to be $8,000 to $10,000 pricier, near where the top-trim QX60 models top out. The plug-in hybrid will likely be even more expensive than that, and certainly beyond Mazda’s CX-90 PHEV.

The TX 350 and TX 500h will go on sale this fall, but the TX 550+ plug-in hybrid will not arrive until a few months later, just as the NX 450+ PHEV took a little while to arrive after the redesigned 2022 NX was launched. We suspect, however, that once they arrive it won’t take long before families and Uber Black drivers alike are saddling up with TXs.

Lexus’ full-width taillights and floating roof design are carried over to the TX, though they look a little Lincoln-like from this angle. It’s a subtle design, but most buyers might care more about the SUV’s other virtues. Lexus

Overview

The 2024 TX SUV shares its platform with the Toyota Grand Highlander and is replacing the previous-generation RX-L three-row SUV in the Lexus lineup. The RX-L was never particularly roomy in the rearmost seat, but the TX should offer plenty of space for adults to settle in back there. We expect a plethora of luxury features—the Toyota version is already plenty pleasant inside—to justify the Lexus badge but the brand hasn’t released a comprehensive equipment list yet. Three different powertrains will be offered, including two hybrids—one of which is a plug-in. Entry-level models are powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder, and the plug-in hybrid is said to make a stout 406 horsepower and offer 33 miles of electric-only driving range.

Lexus TX: Subtle Style, Plenty of Tech

Inside and out, the TX is a visually conservative machine. On the outside, that’s an unusual turn of events because Lexus has leaned into its giant spindle grille and aggressive visuals for years, even if they’re sometimes at odds with the soothing, reassuring personalities of many of its best sellers.

The big grille is toned way down here, the daytime running lights are redesigned away from the familiar L-shape and the front has a monochrome look not unlike the company’s recent fully electric RZ crossover. Lexus refers to the look as the “Unified Spindle.” It’s certainly less polarizing than earlier Spindle designs, but perhaps a little less distinctive.

Inside, the cabin is similarly muted and follows the same visual direction as the recently redesigned NX and RX. It doesn’t seem as visually opulent as the QX60 or Genesis GV80 interiors, but it’s certain to be executed in the same high-touch materials familiar throughout the Lexus lineup.

The TX will also come with all of the automaker’s latest infotainment and safety technology. A 12.3-inch cockpit and a 14-inch multimedia display are standard, with knobs retained for volume and HVAC controls. They work similarly to the screens in the NX and RX, with many voice control options and easy-to-navigate menus. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, while options include a head-up display, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson stereo and customizable ambient lighting.

Lexus’ Safety System+ 3.0 will also be standard on all trims, including adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and a host of other systems.

The TX’s interior is a bit on the plain side by luxury SUV standards, but it looks to be filled with the same high-touch materials as other Lexus models. It also uses the automaker’s latest infotainment systems. Lexus

Lexus TX Engines and Power

In addition to a gas-powered 2.4L turbo engine, there will be two electrified options. Including the familiar 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 engine powering the Lexus RX and NX, and for the first time, a 3.5L V6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with DIRECT4 motivating the range-topping TX 550h+.

Note, the entry-level TX 350 comes with FWD or AWD in the US; in Canada, it’s AWD only across the board. Both TX 500h and TX 550h+ have AWD drivetrains only.

2024 Lexus TX 500h with standard AWD

While both the Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX offer three powertrain options, the output and key specs are quite different. We tested the potent Hybrid Max-powered Grand Highlander making an impressive 363-hp — but looking at the TX’s 406-hp hybrid specs, we definitely need to get behind the wheel of this one.

Whereas the larger, redesigned Lexus GX and Lexus LX adopt Lexus’ GA-F platform, the TX sits on the GA-K platform for a low centre of gravity and better weight distribution.

Interior

The 2024 Lexus TX features a posh interior with minimalist vibes and a focus on passenger comfort and utility above everything else. The dashboard is slimmer than that of the LX, and the center console is comparatively cleaner. Instead of two touchscreens in the center, a 12.3-inch upper unit and a 7-inch lower unit, there’s just one 14-inch unit, positioned more conveniently.

Lexus TX customers will be able to specify its interior in three colors: Peppercorn, Birch, and Black. Image Source: Lexus

The TX features the Lexus Interface infotainment system that Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) developed in Plano, Texas. Hey Lexus voice assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Apple Music and Amazon Music streaming, dual-Bluetooth pairing, cloud navigation, and OTA updates are some of the key features of the U.S.-developed infotainment system. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster resides behind the steering wheel, but it’s an “available” feature, which is strange for a full-size luxury SUV in 2023. Even a head-up display in the list of optional features.

The TX is the biggest model in the Lexus line-up, so it’s more spacious than the LX. While the LX is available in 4-, 5-, and 7-seat versions, the TX will be available in 6- and 7-seat versions. Thus, the LX will continue being the flagship model and have the highest price tag in the Lexus line-up. Back to the TX, the second row has either a 60:40 split-folding bench or two captain’s chairs. Third-row passengers need to just press a switch on the second-row seat shoulder on their respective sides to make room for their entry.

Compared to the Lexus RX L, the Lexus TX should provide significantly enhanced comfort for third-row passengers, offering improved headroom and legroom. We can already see that outside visibility is much better. In addition to allowing those occupants to get a better view of the surroundings, the significantly bigger rear quarter glass panels improve visibility for the driver while backing up. The shape of these panels is almost identical to the Toyota Grand Highlander.

In the 6-seat version, the TX features an optional center console between the captain’s chairs. It’s a removable semi-console box that offers extra storage space for small items or portable electronics, like a tablet, for instance. The TX’s cargo space is higher than that of the LX and enough to store seven carry-on suitcases in the rear. With all seats up, 20.1 cu. ft. of cargo space is available. Folding down the third-row seats increases the cargo space to 57.4 cu. ft. Folding down the second-row seats as well gives a maximum luggage capacity of 97 cu .ft.

Unlike the Lexus LX, the TX features a panoramic sunroof. While the former offers up to 71 cu. ft. of cargo space, the latter has 97 cu. ft. of cargo space. Image Source: Lexus
