The 2022 Shelby Mustang GT500 Heritage Edition officially entered the market on November 15th, 2021, at which time Ford received a multitude of orders. Those who placed their order in time began taking shipment of their Heritage Edition GT500s in the spring of this year. To date, little has been mentioned by Ford regarding whether or not the full quota has been reached for 2022 Heritage Edition production.
The 2022 Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition was marketed for a retail price of $78,835, which is $2,140 above the base GT500’s asking price, after factoring in the vehicle’s mandatory “gas-guzzler tax” and destination fee. Those opting for hand-painted stripes were subject to an additional $10,000 fee.

Code Orange comes to the Shelby GT500

In one last quick announcement, the automaker revealed that the paint color “Code Orange” will now be available on the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Previously, Code Orange was exclusive to the Ford-150 Raptor truck and the upcoming Bronco Raptor.
It is now confirmed that the Ford Performance paint color is coming to the Shelby GT500 as well. Code Orange joins the eight new colors available for other Mustang models. However, Code Orange will only be available for the GT500.
Between these three announcements, Ford Mustang fans and collectors will have a lot to be happy about for 2022. Though, we would not be surprised if even more Mustang announcements come later on.
Carroll Shelby and the Mustang’s Legacy
Today, it is universally accepted that Carroll Shelby played an undeniably pivotal role in shaping the Mustang’s legacy. After all, Shelby and his charismatic demeanor toward all things performance-oriented in nature, transformed the Mustang from a sporty grocery-getter of sorts, into a dominant force within the racing landscape, all in a matter of a few short years.
Ford has now set out to commemorate Shelby’s efforts by unveiling a heritage-inspired rendition of one of the designer’s most ambitious creations, the GT500. The 2022 Shelby Mustang GT500 Heritage Edition blends modern performance aptitude with a host of not-so-subtle “Shelby-isms” to create a memorable performance car that even Shelby himself would find significantly favorable.
2022 Mustang Costal Limited Edition

The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition is not the only limited variant Mustang Ford revealed recently.
The automaker is announcing the Costal Limited Edition as well. The Ford Mustang Costal Limited Edition package is available for the Mustang EcoBoost Premium fastback and convertible.
Like the Shelby GT500 package, the Coastal Limited Edition is purely aesthetic. Ford says the Coastal Limited Edition is “for those who want even more style with their shoreline driving adventures,” which is a fancy way of saying that beach folk are supposed to dig this Mustang variant.
The Coastal package comes with 19-inch machined aluminum wheels with a “tarnished” dark finish, vinyl side stripes that feature the “coastal” logo, rear fender side scoops, blacked-out grille, rear spoiler, illuminated “coastal” door sill plates, and “coastal” instrument panel badge.
Unlike the Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition, the Coastal Edition has three color options: Brittany Blue, Cyber Orange, and Rapid Red.
Orders for the Coastal Limited Edition are open now and will add $1,995 to the 2022 Mustang EcoBoost Premium’s starting MSRP of $32,225.
Performance Comes Standard
Underneath its overtly striking appearance, the 2022 Shelby Mustang GT500 Heritage Edition is every bit as much the dominant performer as its standard GT500 counterpart. Beneath the GT500’s hood resides a fire-breathing 5.2L V8, which produces 760 horsepower, as well as 625 lb-ft of torque. This engine’s power is delivered downstream through a seven-speed Tremec dual-clutch transmission.
Prior testing has indicated that the 2022 GT500 is capable of posting 0-60 MPH times of only 3.4-seconds. For reference, this is a full 3-seconds faster than the 1967 GT500, to which the 2022 Heritage Edition pays homage. The 2022 Shelby Mustang GT500 Heritage Edition has also recorded a blistering ¼ mile time of just 11.3-seconds, with a top speed of 132 MPH.

A Living Legend
Though the world lost Carroll Shelby a decade ago, the 2022 Shelby Mustang GT500 Heritage Edition serves as a living testament to the design luminary’s efforts. Mustang is expanding its lineup of special editions for the 2022 model year with an all-new limited edition Coastal available for Mustangs with a 310hp EcoBoost Premium engine. in fastback and convertible versions.
The new Special Edition embodies the freedom that has always been associated with the iconic Mustang badge. At the same time, it is aimed at people who want to ride in even more style while cruising the coast.

Who Are The Competitors Of The 2022 Heritage-Edition Mustang Shelby GT500?

There are a few cars that would be great competitors to the Heritage-Edition Mustang Shelby GT500. Some of them that come to our minds are the BMW M5 Competition Pack, the Mercedes E63s AMG and even an Audi RS6. All vehicles sport a reliable and hugely effective four-wheel drive system, a must to contend against a huge horse powered rear-wheel drived, tyre-shredding monster. But alas, the GT500 is that slight bit expensive, but perhaps it’s worth that extra buck.
We can all agree that a rear-wheel-drive car is extremely fun, so the GT500 is a no-brainer, right? Wrong! The BMW M5 comes with optional rear wheel drive, which makes it the toughest competitor that the GT500 has.
A war between German Engineering and American Muscle may just be the greatest, however just how much of a competition would they both be on track? Guess we’ll have to wait till 2022 when the car in question, the monstrous Heritage Edition Mustang Shelby GT500, launches.

The first Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was released in 1967 and started a legacy of high-performance Mustang variants. That car also cemented the legendary Carroll Shelby as the premiere Ford tuner.
Eventually, Ford made the Shelby GT Mustangs official offerings from the factory, and the rest is history. 55 years later, the “blue oval” is paying homage to the original pumped-up pony car by releasing the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition.
Mechanically, the Heritage Edition Mustang is the same as a standard Shelby GT500. What separates the Heritage Edition is its limited paint hue and graphics package.
The limited Heritage Edition Mustang comes in Brittany Blue, which is a color exclusive to the model. From there, buyers can choose between two exterior graphic options: hand-painted “Over-the-Top” racing stripes with the GT500 logo or Vinyl Over-the-Top stripes also featuring the GT500 logo.
