Ferrari F430

Officially presented during the Paris Motor show in September 2004, the F430 signaled the arrival of a brand new generation of Ferrari 8-cylinder models. The biggest changes appeared in the engine bay, where the F430 sported an all-new, 4.3-liter V8 that pumped out 483 horsepower and 299 lb-ft of torque—90 hp and 68 lb-ft more than the regular 360. Also boosting the F430’s performance was a new, Formula 1-derived electronic differential and the now-ubiquitous steering wheel-mounted manettino. This rotary switch allowed the driver to select various dynamic modes, such as Wet, Sport and Race, which deliver specific combinations of shock-absorber stiffness, traction-control intervention, gearshift speeds (on F1 transmission-equipped cars) and so on. Further bolstering the car’s sporting credentials were a stiffer chassis, a faster-shifting F1 gearbox, more downforce without additional drag, and bigger wheels and tires.

Used Ferrari Testarossa 512 TR For Sale

The Ferrari Testarossa 512 TR for sale, Italian for “redhead”, came on the scene at the 1984 Paris Auto Show as an answer to problems with Ferrari’s Berlinetta Boxer. The Boxer received criticism for the plumbing from the radiator heating up the cabin too much and there not being enough luggage space. The Testarossa fixed these issues and went on to become an icon of 80s retro culture appearing in numerous international films both back in the 80s and 90s as well as in recent movies.

In 1991, the improved version, the Ferrari Testarossa 512 TR, came on the scene for the 1992 model year. Its name is quite sensible, the ‘5’ is the engine’s cubic capacity in liters and it has ‘12’ cylinders. ‘TR’ comes from Testarossa. Updated internals made this car both more powerful and faster than the Testarossa, thus improving upon a car that was already a dream to drive to begin with. With a run of three years, only 2,261 Testarossa 512 TR cars were made. This makes finding a Ferrari 512 TR for sale a bit of a challenge. However, it is easier than the F512M, the final version of the Testarossa line, of which only a mere 501 cars were made. Of course, any car enthusiast would be delighted to find a 1992 Ferrari Testarossa 512 TR near them. Browse our registry to find these beautiful beasts for sale in locations all across America. You just might get lucky and find one near you!

The exterior of the 512 TR retained most of the style of the Testarossa. You’ll find the same trademark side strakes and an ultra-wide rear track and fenders. The front maintains the same pop-up headlights but the bumper was modified to a one-piece unit with vents under the daytime running lights. It also got clear turn signals and a redesigned grille with chrome slats. The designers modified the flying buttresses from the engine hood, extending them further back along with the car and eliminating the deck lid of the Testarossa. The back of the car was all modified to some extent. The finished product includes revised exhaust tips and an updated grille. The overall size of the car is virtually the same as the original Testarossa with only a 0.2-inch difference in length. The new suspension system also drops the car to ride 0.2 inches lower.

The engine received the most updates, improving upon the Testarossa in both speed and power. Drivers enjoy 428 horsepower and 362 pound-feet of torque. The 512 TR can sprint from 0-60 in a mere 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 195 mph. Flying along the open road in a 1993 Ferrari Testarossa 512 TR is the stuff that dreams are made of. Ferrari For Sale by Owner

Exterior

Ferrari chose to retain most of Testarossa’s exterior characteristics such as the side strakes, the fenders, and the trademark wide rear track. In the front, Ferrari only altered the bumper and the fascia while leaving the pop-up headlights and the trunk lid rather unchanged. However, below them, the TR was featured with new headlamps with a redesigned grille and clear turn signals: the front grille had chrome slats placed in between. Additionally, the bumper, which had a black lower element, was substituted by vents under each of the headlamps. The vents had no character lines on either side.

The 512 TR on the sides, remained unchanged moving towards the C-Pillar, save for the updated five-spoke wheels and the body-colored skirts. Changes, however, became quite obvious towards the rear part – removing the short deck lid on its predecessor. Additionally, Ferrari opted to change both the bumper and the rear section of the fenders by making the bumpers a bit thicker. On the rear side, most changes were only limited to a reshaped bumper and new exhaust pipes with a grille in between them. The vehicle also got a 512 TR badge, while the Ferrari symbol on the deck was moved towards the fascia. Also, the engine hood gained an improvement which included a body-colored deck lid and black painted inner panels. The car’s dimensions remained similar since the new body was only about 0.2 inches shorter. Moreover, the 512 TR sat about 0.2 inches lower given its revised suspension.

Interior

The 512 TR’s interior also gained some improved on its interior with numerous design characteristics being updated to suit early 90’s standards. Even though the dashboard maintained its previous size and shape, Ferrari chose to drop the wraparound design feature and added some A/C ventilation below the stereo. The steering wheel took a modern design while the instrument cluster got some new light indicators and dials. It can be argued that the most significant alteration was adding the new console right below the dashboard. This new element integrated a three-gauge cluster, the steering column and did not include the vehicle’s old fashioned cassette rack. The console in the middle was revised to fit a cleaner design and moved a few centimeters towards the backside. However, the shiftier retained its previous position: on the console’s left side. The seats were redesigned to improve comfort. Other less significant alterations included a new handbrake lever, new door panels, reshaped A-pillars, and an updated audio system.

Engine

The flat 12 4.9 liter engine was greatly changed for the TR. The unit featured Nikasil liners, a better air intake system, larger intake valves, Bosch management system, and a new and better exhaust system. Consequently, the vehicle’s output improved to about 428 horsepower and approximately 362 pounds of torque – more than forty horsepower improvement over the predecessor. The Testarossa took about 5.2 seconds to move from zero to sixty while the new 512 TR only took about 4.8 seconds. The top speed was improved from 180 miles per hour to 195 mph.

The engine was well manufactured to mate well with an updated version of the company’s five-speed gear lever with sliding ball bearings and a single plate clutch for easier and more efficient gear shifting. The position of the gearbox and the engine was changed thus giving the TR a better weight distribution index of 41/59 percent – which ultimately resulted in easier handling.
More chassis improvements included bigger 14-inch brake rotors and cross drilling, lower-profile tires, quicker steering, and a revised suspension system.

Ferrari 512 BB Ле-Ман

Ferrari 512 BB Ле-Ман (1979)

Ferrari 512 BB

Every Ferrari Ever Made

The complete Ferrari model list. Painstakingly researched & updated for each model year. Find the current model list, vintage Ferraris and model lists by year. We took over 70 years of Ferrari amazingness and got it all down on one page. Every production Ferrari ever made. That is right, every single one. For eagle-eyed observers, we split this page into several sub-pages so don’t freak out and read on before telling us we missed a Ferrari model.

Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of the Alfa Romeo race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni, the company built its first car in 1940. It wasn’t till 1948 that we got the first Ferrari road car, the Ferrari 166 Inter. The early Ferrari road cars are hard to figure out. In the early days of Ferrari, having a custom bodywork was the norm. Customers decided on the chassis and engine with the factory and then chose an Italian coachbuilder to make the bodywork. As was typical, a bare chassis was delivered to the coachbuilder of the customer’s choice. Since the 1970s things have settled down, so it is easier to organize Ferrari models and harder to miss any. We grouped most of them by family/platform since that is the most logical way. Current models are first, and then we take you through all the legacy and discontinued Ferrari models. Classic V12 front-engined Ferraris were grouped together. Also worth noting, if a model is still in production, then it didn’t get its own section yet.

If you have visited this page before you will notice some changes. First of all, we added some basic information and a description to each Ferrari model to give you more relevant data. There were also too many models on this page so we split the page up. We create a separate page for Ferrari Race Cars, where we did into the early Ferrari sports car prototypes and the full list of Ferrari Formula One models too. We create a page for official Ferrari concept cars and the current Ferrari model lineup, as well as a page dedicated to the iconic Ferrari supercars and hypercars. Finally, we create a page for the very rare, very special Ferrari one-offs and Ferrari limited edition models (think less than a few dozen unit cars).

Trivia[]

Testarossa[]

The Testarossa name, which, in Italian means «red head», comes from the red-painted cylinder heads on the flat-12 engine. The engine was technically a 180° V engine, since it shared pins with opposing cylinders. Output was 390 hp (291 kW), and the car won many comparison tests and admirers — it was featured on the cover of Road & Track magazine nine times in just five years. Almost 10,000 Testarossas, 512TRs, and 512Ms were produced, making it one of the most common Ferrari models, despite its high price and exotic design. In 1985, the Testarossa retailed for about $94,000 ($176,032 in 2006 dollars) in the United States. This included a $2,700 (i.e., $5,100) «gas-guzzler» tax.

The car’s roots may be traced back to the 512 BBi of 1981. Both shared the same basic platform, though the Testarossa added coilover shocks to the double wishbones at the rear. The engine was similar, too, though it now featured 4 valves per cylinder. One significant mechanical difference was the radiator: the 512 BB featured a single radiator in the nose, while the Testarossa used a pair of smaller units on each side in front of the rear wheels. This necessitated the distinctive side-mounted air intakes and strakes, as well as the wide body.

Although successful on the road, the Testarossa did not appear on race tracks, unlike the 512BBi, which had done so with minor success.

Synopsis[]

The 512 TR («Testa Rossa») is a redesigned variant of the Testarossa with improved engine and platform specifications. The 512 TR saw the final application of Ferrari’s 180° V12 engine, commonly referred to as flat-12 (F12) engine, which had been in production since 1973.

It is powered by a 4.9 liter V12 engine, internally codenamed F113 D, that has two cylinder banks angled at 180° to each other, allowing the engine to have a shorter height than regular V12 engines. The result is an improved center of gravity, which was further achieved by lowering the engine and transmission assembly within the chassis by 1.18 in (30 mm).

Its engine has four valves per cylinder, dry sump lubrication, and Bosch Motronic fuel injection. It produces 421 hp (314 kW) and 360 ft·lb (488 N·m) of torque.

The 512 TR is based on the Testarossa’s tubular steel chassis utilizing unequal-length double wishbone suspension at the front and rear, which was revised to fit larger diameter wheels and improve ride quality. Weighing 3690 lb (1674 kg), it is heavier than most cars made in the 1990s such as the Lamborghini Diablo SV and most Ferraris in the Forza series.

The 512 TR and its subsequent F512 M redesign were replaced by the 550 Maranello in 1996, the predecessor to the 575M Maranello.
